We're Moving!

I hate when people blog about not blogging...I find it boggling. I dislike Blogger so much that I find myself not wanting to blog. Over the past couple of months my frustration with Blogger has grown into a beast proving too difficult to control. Therefore, I am moving our little nook on the Internet to WordPress. Seeing as how I get paid to make online courses look sexy for my day job it is only fitting that I find a blog host that fits my design aesthetic.

Lazy Summer Days

While we spent our weekend outside building a retaining wall (go us!), our delightful animals enjoyed the AC. Can't say we blame them.

Blog Recommendation

While having a lazy afternoon on the couch with "Knocked Up" on in the background, we have spent the past hour looking at the following blog...it is glorious! Yay for random internet searches about cake decorating that yield wonderful results. It is quite popular.

On The Watch

I always feel like somebody's watching me
Who's playing tricks on me
I always feel like somebody's watching me
Tell me it can't be

- Rockwell

I am officially a block captain for our neighborhood watch. A couple of weeks ago we ventured down to the neighborhood park to discuss the possibility of forming a watch with a handful of neighbors and the police. As the coordinator explained the duties of a block captain, Clay had an 'ah-ha' moment and turned to me wearing a mischievous smile.

"You should totally be a block captain…you love power," he said.

"Well, yes. But I am not sure being a block captain will provide me with the prospect of world domination," I replied.

"Everybody has to start somewhere babe. I know you, you will be on top of everything and rule with an iron fist and I will get kickbacks for being your husband."

"I'm not going to be your puppet. It is not 1932 nor are we in Manchukuo," I shot back relishing the idea of being block captain.

A couple of days later I sent the coordinator an email detailing my wish to become a block captain. Yesterday, my request was honored. Watch out criminals…Karen is watching.

We spotted this SUV in Raleigh. Someone out there loves Jesus and The Silver Surfer from The Fantastic Four and chose to broadcast it via their vehicle.

Keep It Clean

A smidgen of our college trivia team, Keep it Clean, has reunited (and it feels so good). Former members are located in Ft. Lauderdale, Belgium, and other locales besides Raleigh but three of our good friends from Clemson work at NC State and reside in Raleigh. Clyde could not make it last night but Greg and Holly met us at The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium for beer, food, and trivia. We peaked early with a first round lead but lost our mojo as the night wore on. Same time, next week we will reclaim the victorious days of Clemson.

A New(ish) Life

Photobucket

Where to start? I will make it brief. Our three month civilian experience was short and sweet due to Clay's reactivation. We will continue to live in North Carolina for the next couple of years and then if we decide to stay in who knows where? I suppose I will have to get use to combat boots by the front door again. We're looking forward to seeing where this adventure leads us next. Who would have thought?

Dad and His Girls...

I just came across this picture from Megan's rehearsal...I think it's a great picture of us three girls with Dad so I thought I would share.

We're Not Dead

I rather enjoy weekends Clay has National Guard drill. I get to zip around town at my own (fast) pace and wander up and down aisles without any regard for anyone else except ME! This morning I became very annoyed at the five + men wearing orange aprons that approached me at Home Depot asking if I needed help. Sigh. Can't a girl drool over table saws while pondering what one she will ask her husband to get her for Christmas without being bothered by salesmen? I hate the tone in which they ask if I need help; it is as if they think I am clueless about hand and power tools and need some big strong man to point me in the right direction. I am sure I am reading too much into the situation but I can't help but be annoyed. We spent last weekend cleaning out our garage and taking trips to the dump. We're almost to the point where we can begin to set up a little wood shop area; I can't wait.

On a completely different note, I can't get the following song out of my head. And you know what? I am okay with that because this song ROCKS!

Lake Lanier and Clemson

This weekend we escaped to my parents home on Lake Lanier, GA. We had a great time on the lake and spending time with family. On the way back to Raleigh we stopped at Clemson University to show Lucy our old stomping grounds.

Dog heaven.

Lucy helping Dad navigate the waters.

Downtown Clemson, SC.

Outside Tillman Hall where we had a couple of classes together.

Clay outside of ROTC headquarters.

Hardin Hall (1890), home to the History Department; Clay practically lived there his senior year.

Brackett Hall, home to the Political Science Department; I lived there throughout my four years at Clemson.

Clemson House Dorm. I was a freshman (5th floor) and Clay was a sophomore (3rd floor). We met through friends in August 2001 and have been together ever since (cue sappy music).

What Would You Say?

Last night, Meredith, Harry, Clay and I went to the Dave Matthews Band Concert in Raleigh. We're excited we can finally go to concerts without having to drive over an hour to get to a venue like we did in New York. After tailgating we made our way into the Time Warner Pavilion to see Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds (along with other members of the band) tear the house down.

All Things Southern

On Saturday we loaded Lucy into the truck and went to The Cook-Out, a Greensboro, NC based burger & malt drive-thru stand. We ordered cheeseburgers and a shake for ourselves and a plain hamburger for Lucy. We then drove to the North Carolina Museum of Art and ate our delicious meal in the park among outdoor sculptures. After lunch, we ventured over to the Raleigh Flea Market where we sifted through junk in search of treasure. A stop at Home Depot to buy a Crape Myrtle and then a couple hours of yard work rounded out our afternoon. A great southern Saturday.

Lucy very much enjoyed her hamburger

Yummm....cotton candy

Our Crape Myrtle; who knew we would enjoy yard work so much :)

Bye Bye iPods...

Our first generation iPods (e.g. old) were stolen from our vehicles last night. Our first generation broken iPods...taken to be sold (presumably) to a pawn shop. A string of houses were hit by the dim-witted youth who failed to take the most expensive available items...not that we're complaining. Recently, our extra money has been going towards the house, hence no replacements (yet) for the broken iPods. We're shrugging it off and using the incident as a reminder that no place is a 100% safe from petty theft and to buy new iPods!

Happy 3rd Birthday!

Lucy and her brother, Boone, turned three today. Boone's owners are our good friends Jackie and Aaron who currently live in Maine. Lucy and Boone are incredibly special dogs because of how they helped Jackie and I through hard times. Lucy, we love you so much and could not imagine life without you. You're our good girl :)

Click here to view Jackie's birthday tribute to Boone and Lucy.

ETA: For her birthday present, she was able to eat 1/4 gallon of ice cream straight from the carton. She loved it!
