Old Springs Pike

Those of you at our wedding may remember seeing a friend of mine (Karen) from high school, James Smith, in attendance. I just would like to plug his band, Old Springs Pike, who were recently featured on MTV.

I remember when James S., James C., and Heather R. (all members of Old Springs Pike), were the Urban Wombats, a folksy-like band whose CD is still in my collection somewhere. James Smith is incrediably talented and I am very happy that he is finally 'making it' in New York City. Go James!

Burgers and Shotguns...

This evening we had a backyard barbecue with some friends who will soon be departing the lovely north territory. Our dogs ran while we talked and the guys shot clay (no, not my husband) discs and became buddies with quite the character. We had about 2 1/2 hours of sunshine before a late summer thunderstorm rained (hahaha) on our parade.

Lucy made nice with Erin's new toy terrier puppy

Lucy and Boone, sister and brother, were very happy to see each other again

The guys shooting..for Clay's first time with a shotgun he did quite well!

This man just randomly walked onto John and Erin's property with his gun and starting shooting discs after conversing for some time. From up near the house, us girls had no idea what was going on and at first thought the man was confronting the them for shooting. Clay reports that the man had a large mustard stain on the side of his face and was very excited that they're were shooting discs so he could join in....and that he did! The thunderstorm saved the guys from spending too much time with quite the character...a great way to end a nice evening.

Postcards From a Staff Picnic

No Farewell For Us...

Yesterday evening we attended a Hail and Farewell at The Partridge Berry Inn. According to the Army Officer's Handbook, a best seller and must read (we jest), the hail and farewell is the most common social function. It is a time to welcome new officers and their spouses to the unit and say goodbye to those departing. The girls that I (Karen) shared such a strong bond with over the duration of the deployment were formally 'farewelled' along with their husbands. While I am happy they're moving towards new adventures and new phases of their life (oh dear, I sound so cliche), I will miss Fran, Jackie, and Erin terribly. Below is the only picture from the night that was not engulfed in blackness...I thought it looked like a first year photography student's work...nice.

After the event we decided to venture to the famous 146 Ward St. in Watertown. We have been following this story on the local news with great interest. Neighbors are fed up with the city's reluctance to address the hazardous conditions of a house located on a street lined with cute and well-kept houses. We managed to snap a picture of the famous house...how exciting!

Painting a New Adventure...

The apartment is a mess and we're slightly frazzled with disorganized 'stuff' scattered across the floor. We're preparing for the big move into our new place (hence the lack of new posts...sorry about that). After the craziness of homecoming and traveling over block leave, we're settling into *normal* life and just enjoying each and every day. We spent this past weekend painting our fun loud colored walls back to boring and mundane beige....blech....

Lucy took it upon herself to rub against the freshly painted hallway and Desi took advantage of the open second floor window...the joys of living with such mischievous animals!
